Thinking of buying this clam... it's a big boy. I will need a 5g bucket to transport it home. The owner dosent know what kind of clam it is. Maybe you guys could help.

I am inclined to agree with Squamosa because of the squat and rounded appearance, but the color and pattern are very similar to a Dersasa. Fantastic looking clam, it will be a huge calcium sponge so be forewarned.

i think derasa, pattern is exactly like my derasa, don't ask me why it wants to half hide on a cave.

I'm not asking to be rude..., but I see 3in clams for $100. Did you get to keep your arm? What is a good yearly growth rate for a maxima clam if their is a expert present?

What is the clamp force on a guy that big

Going to pick it up thursday.. he has it on the sand bed. I would like to put it up on a big flat piece of live rock. I already have one 4" maxima clam. This dude should dwarf him, lol. Yea I'll definitely have to stock up on 2 part..

do not attempt to ID a clam based on mantle coloration, use the shell to ID. The shell is classic T. squamosa. Interestingly, the mantle patterns are very derasa-like.

Agreed.

And it probably won't attach to rock. Gonna need a big spot on the sand for it.
