I have about 200lbs of rock that i took out of my ststem a few years ago due to a massive bubble algae problem. I need more rock as ill be upgrading tanks so im wondering what steps i need to take to clean it and if ill have any issues with adding it to the current rock i have. ie. leaching phosphates / any algae issues?

or

do i just buy new real reef rock and call it a day?

Thanks all
Dave

Let is soak in fresh water for a week or two.
After that rinse good with a stream from the hose.
Then clean it with some MA for a hour or two in a trashcan, rinse a gain after that.
Let it dry in the sun for about a week or two.
Then cure it on saltwater in a trashcan for a week or two till ready for use in your tank.

Good to know! I have a ton of really nice pieces so i just wanted to check prior.

When i cure it in a can should i worry about using a powerhead or anything?

Oh yes thank you.
I forgot, you use slower head at all times.
Some use a skimmer when they cure it but I never have.

I would skip the skimmer but add a heater to keep the temp up, if needed.

What would be the purpose of keeping a heater in it when there is nothing living on them?

I personally don't bother with a water change while curing rock. I just topped off with RODI to take care of evaporation.
