Recently, for reasons I cannot fathom, my water has turned slightly cloudy. Any suggestions as to why, and how to clear it up?

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 60. High, yes I know, been trying to control it with limited success. Water was clear with similar readings before.

Right now would suggest a 20% water change and run carbon to try and polish the water.

I did a 20% on Sunday, RO water, didn't really change much besides dropping the nitrates by a bit. I'll try and get my hands on some carbon. Fairly new to the aquarium hobby, when you say carbon, what sort, like, generic activated carbon from a store, or is there something specific for aquariums?

I think any carbon at this point will help the situation. But I a big fan of this carbon from BRS!

I had the same issue after a cycle.

To remedy the issue, I did a 20% water change, added a filter sock and some filter floss to the sump and then ran my protein skimmer wet over night.

I’m bare bottom, so I made sure to blow all the rocks with a baster and then vacuumed the bottom as clean as possible.

That's some pretty significant improvement there. Unfortunately I don't have a sump or protein skimmer. Bottom is crushed Coral. However I will try jamming some filter floss into the outflow of my HoB, see if that makes a difference.

What’s the purpose of running skimmer wet? Just curious...
