It honestly just became clean, it went through a lot of diatoms, the diatoms finally cleared up this week. I just have a regular filter,no protein skimmer but maybe I’ll look into that.
When you say regular filter like a hang on unit?
Can you provide a pic or two?

Yes, it’s for 110 gallons but I have a 65 gallon. I can provide a picture later I’m not home currently, but it’s the Aqua clear 110.
Yeah, that’s insufficient
You need chemical, biological and mechanical filtration
Your unit is mechanical
Hang on skimmer will be valuable as will be a hang on refugium or similar for biological capability
As you add fish and livestock, your filter will simply not keep up and you will experience similar water quality issues

So do you suggest 1. Hang on skimmer , 2. Hang on refugium?

I don't like HOB skimmers.
Ones that epecially sit outside the tank.

I hear a lot of nightmares with them especially if you accidentally forget to empty the cup.
If your going to get a hang on skimmer get one that sits inside the tank and not outside.
Something like this:

And it also has a DC pump which is even better so you can dial the pump in.

Only thing is they are quite bulky and do take space inside your tank.
But they are less prone to you coming home one day and finding a puddle on your floor.

Ok thank you! I’m going to take a look at this one. Have you heard any reviews on it?

There's a whole thread on it here..

There are better skimmers for a lot more price.
But i don't think you need / want one of those premium ones, as they are also mostly intended to be used inside sumps.

Yes! Imo you've saturated your tank perhaps with an abundance of bacteria so that they've taken up the water column
I had thought that the life nitrifying bacteria helps clear the cloudiness? It says fights against ammonia and nitrates.

The cloudiness is likely bacteria. Idk that ammonia and Nitrate could reach levels to be visible (and support any sort of life). After the first time you really don't need to add more bacteria (unless you're purposefully trying to do something). The bacteria have been multiplying non stop covering every surface since then. Imo you could be over saturating and thus the visible bloom in the column
