Clownfish ID. Perc or Occe

Hey guys,

I bought a pair of these assuming they are Percs. I just wanted to check this is a correct assumption as one just died and I want to add a couple more so the little guys has a friend.

I count 9 dorsal spines but i have very little idea what i'm looking for.

If it takes a couple of weeks to get some more does that risk my current guy turning female?

Looks like an ocellaris to me.
One thing to look for is the color of the iris of the eye, around the pupil.
A true percula's iris is usually orange, an ocellaris' iris is black or at least darker.
Also, if you add 2 more, one of the 3 will eventually be killed by the other two.
Clowns are best kept either in pairs of mismatched size, or large harems.
You've got plenty of time, the one you have won't change to female in a few weeks, especially with no other male present.
Also, a percula and an ocellaris can mate and produce offspring.

Thanks for that. Using that diagram that you linked and looking closely at my guy seems to agree with your conclusion. The surviving clownfish is about 3-3.5cm so if I got one that is at least 4cm would that be a good size difference to prevent bullying and fighting

Should be a sufficient size difference. Or you can get one that's much smaller.
They will most likely still quarrel at first though, regardless. Establishing dominance, who gets to eat more, etc.
Basically deciding who gets to be female. Larger one usually wins.
