Hi All. I had this happened to both of my clownfish at different time. I have them both for 3 months now. They both seem healthy and eating very well. My first clown had it on its jaw about 3 weeks ago. My second clown currently has it on top of its head. I've done a fresh water dip and it healed in a few days for my first clown. I just perform the same procedure for the second clown today. It looks like a white fuzz bump in tank, but the wound turns red when dipped in freshwater. The white bump seems to appears overnight. I observe my tank everyday. Please help identify if this any major concern moving forward. Thanks

With the skin tag hanging off like that, I’m wondering if it could be an injury? How long did this take to show up?

Hi Jay. First case occurred like around 45 days after I got these two clown. They pop up over night. It can be injury but it happened to both my clowns which is unusual.

I wonder though - clowns will "lip lock" and damage each other at the same time. They are also pretty sly - while you are watching them for signs of fighting, they stop and watch you! The lack of ripped fins indicates that they are pretty closely matched, that is, one of them isn't chasing and biting the other one.

Are there any secondary symptoms? The fish not feeding well, swimming poorly, breathing fast?

Hi Jay. These two clown are paired I would say. They get a long very well. I've had a few pairs of clowns through my 10 years of into the hobby. These two are the most relatively well behaved. No signs of aggression toward each other. They both eat well. The female eats more from what I've seen. The male is a little more shy but still likes to eat. I rotate between Mysis, flakes, and pellets. Everything appears to be normal except the white bumps.

Here is an update 1 day after freshwater dipping it. Looks like a white tumor.

That seems to high and far back to be from being bitten. It does look like a bacterial infection, but Myxosporidians can also cause lesions like this. The former tend to be erosive (below the skin line) while the latter tend to be protrusive, coming up above the skin line. I can't tell from the photo - can you tell?
