i really want my three common clowns to host my bubble tip nems. i have shown them videos of clowns in nems but they seem scared of them. also caught them in a net and put it on the nem, but it was too stressful. what else to do?

Following, as I too have 2 clowns totally not interested in getting a home.

I've tried videos, I've tried printing out pictures of clowns in a nem and taping it to the tank so they can see it for a month with zero success. I've also seen a video of someone placing a clear tube over the nem and putting the clowns down the tube making it the only place the clowns can be, but never tried it.

Only thing that ever worked for me was time, have to just be patient and eventually they'll jump in and never want to leave.

Actually it’s the anemone that host the clowns, common misconception. Anyways I had clowns for almost a year and they never showed interest in my anemone.

Some people I’ve seen have their clowns be hosted by the anemone within a week of one or the other getting added. Others never have it happen. My were hosted by a thermometer I had in my tank. They would always hang around it and once the lights went off, straight to the thermometer they went.

You can always try and target feed your clowns near the anemone to see if they start to show interest towards the anemone!

What I have done in the several years ago is buy a new plastic spaghetti strainer. Set it in the tank. Put the nem in there. Put the clownfish in there. It worked the 2 times I used that trick. Get a big enough strainer so the clowns have room to swim around and can decide to go to them nem themselves. Watch them. You don't want to force them you want the lack of space to have them persuade themselves to go check out the nem.

Never once in decades did a clown or pair not settle in a BTA.

However, some took a week and the longest was 9 months.

You have no control so leave them alone.
