I just watched a very long but interesting Pod cast with guest Patrick Moore regarding Climate Change , and why he quit Green Peace ( he was one of the founders right from protesting nuclear bomb testing into the atmosphere ). It centered around CO2 , and if you expand on it it can be interpreted as to the benefits of adding CO 2 to your reef Tank. Feedback is what I am looking For . It was on " Modern Wisdom " . I really enjoyed the fact that the host did not continually interrupt

I don’t want to watch the show right now, but I do use CO2 to lower the pH and melt aragonite in the calcium reactor that drips alkalinity into the reef. Too much effluent will lower the pH in the tank, so I don’t think I would want to add much CO2 (above normal atmospheric concentrations-outside) to avoid lowering pH in the system because it may interfere with coral growth.

But I have heard a few people have moved on from the green movement for a few different reasons.

What it implies is that increased CO2 Ie he talks of people talking to their plants and claiming increased growth as a out of this world idea , until he realized that our breath contains a huge amount of CO@ therefore aids in plant growth and I believe development of calcium skeleton if I am correct

Interesting to know. I was trying to make a correlation . I would have to watch the video again , as he only touched on the ocean side of it. The one thing he said was that the colder the water the more CO2 it could hold. Patrick Moore walked away from Greenpeace as he stated that has now been taken over , and controlled by Politically motivated people who get things publicized regarding Global Warming for their own gain ( power ). There is not one scientist on the board

With plants levels of CO2 below 400ppm inhibit photosynthesis which can occur in greenhouses that are unvented during the day (due to the temperature outside, humidity etc). When greenhouses are unvented supplementing CO2 has shown a 20 to 40% increase in crop yields. It also lowers heat stress and decreases time to maturity. This isn't a problem with plants that arent in a completely closed environment.

With reef tanks a lot of people have PH issues because of household CO2 levels so more air exchange with the outside or oxygen supplementation can be useful for some people. That's why some people run a line outside attached to their protein skimmers.

Here is an image from my GHL Profilux. I stalled composing a post in the chem forum (not sure where else it would go) and maybe I only want to post fancy charts like @Lasse....

Anyway, Here is a chart showing ~30 days where 7 of those days with nobody in hour home. I hacked in the approximate trend lines.

What changed? No human generated CO2, no dog generated CO2 and no pro style high BTU gas range generated CO2 (used daily). If I ever finish the post it will discuss this. Here, look at pH as it related to kH and come to your own conclusions. I am not corellating this to the ocean or argument here. The post is simply to illustrate what decrease (and then increase back to baseline) of CO2 looks like in my system.
