I have a big chunk of sympodium, I’ll tick it off in the morning and take a pic. Mine looks like this when the blenny lays in it.

I don't think it is blue sympodium. I recently got some an when it's closed looks more like xenia, as you can still see some of its tentacles they just curl in more, but not completely.
It's not an alevepora as it doesn't have enough tentacles(12) on each stalk.
I think you are right on thinking these are smurf polyps, hopefully you can cheer them back up
This is blue sympodium. You can see one is closed up on the bottom left and looks nothing like yours but the smurfs polyps sure do.

It’s a blue and green sympodium. I didn’t have my phone in the store or I would have taken a picture before it closed up. My polyps look a lot smaller than yours.
