Coin in live rock

to be honest I can’t tell if it is metal, I scratched it and it’s definitely not brass or gold in color… it doesn’t look stamped but who knows. I got it from a local lfs

Definitely a Spanish gold Doubloon. From just eyeing it minted in the late 1400’s.

I just realized those marine biology students are going to be scratching their heads trying to find out where they're survey marker went

In general, metals and SW aquariums don't mix well. Pry it off and toss it.

I would take it out. If you don't know exactly what it's made of its just best to get it out of the tank.

Hello everyone, I bought a piece of rock with a interesting hitchhiker on it, a metal coin molded into it, I cannot make out what the coin says…I know some companies aquaculture they’re own live rock, could this be something added on purpose?

I would take that out.

It is not metal. It is stamped into the aggregate/concrete like a potter stamps their symbol or name into a vase or plate or something.

I have one of these man-made dounut rocks, its looks exactly the same and its a metal disc with a number stamped into the metal. It even has the same edge that circles the disc.

I dug out my donut rock that has a metal disc that is epoxies onto the rock. I have had it for years so it's covered in Coralie algae. But it is metal.
