to be honest I can’t tell if it is metal, I scratched it and it’s definitely not brass or gold in color… it doesn’t look stamped but who knows. I got it from a local lfs

Depending on volume may no have impact but chip it off and save it as a momentum

Moving a survey marker is a Biblical crime.
Removing a Petco manufacturing disk is like tearing the label off of a mattress.

I would delete this thread before the Man comes looking for ya.
I just realized those marine biology students are going to be scratching their heads trying to find out where they're survey marker went :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I would take it out. If you don't know exactly what it's made of its just best to get it out of the tank.

Hello everyone, I bought a piece of rock with a interesting hitchhiker on it, a metal coin molded into it, I cannot make out what the coin says…I know some companies aquaculture they’re own live rock, could this be something added on purpose?

I would take that out.

OP, can you come up with a valid reason for leaving a piece of unidentified metal in the tank?

It is not metal. It is stamped into the aggregate/concrete like a potter stamps their symbol or name into a vase or plate or something.

I have one of these man-made dounut rocks, its looks exactly the same and its a metal disc with a number stamped into the metal. It even has the same edge that circles the disc.

I dug out my donut rock that has a metal disc that is epoxies onto the rock. I have had it for years so it's covered in Coralie algae. But it is metal.
