Hi there

I've had a longnose butterfly for over a week now. Was not stressed when I introduced it to my tank, ate really well and has continued to do so.

I added another fish yesterday afternoon, and an hour after adding when I turned on the lights, I noticed my butterfly had what looked like ich. Tiny white spots everywhere. I had already started treating my tank with Medic 3 days prior to adding this new fish (a tang) as a preventative measure, so medication had been added before any signs, which I was hoping is a good thing.

Butterfly still seemed fine yesterday, not as active when swimming, but still eating really well (3x a day). However, this morning I've come down and seen him in this position, which he never does. I've not fed them yet, but with the lights off I'm noticing something different about his skin (see photos).

I perform weekley water changes (20%) and check all my levels 3x a week. I checked them yesterday morning and these were the results:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 2
PH - 8.3
Alkaline: 8.9-9.1
Salt - 1.025

After seeing him this morning, I'm now concerned it may be something other than ich. Can anybody help, please

Medic 3 which I believe is Polyp Lab Medic is peroxide salt and will do nothing.
You will want to use copper based medication in a separate tank/ I see you are in London and want to use copper power at 2.25ppm for a Full 30 DAYS AND MONITOR WITH HANNA BRAND OR SEACHEM BRAND COPPER TEST KIT. iF NEITHER AVAILABLE, THEN SERA BRAND AND LEAVE YOUR DISPLAY TANK WITH NO FISH IN IT for 6-8 weeks to allow any parasites to die off without a host fish (sorry for caps lock - fat fingers) and monitor ammonia levels during treatment
How are you testing water now?

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Who are its tankmates?
What is the active ingredient in “Medic 3”?
Did it eat after you fed it today?
