I'm trying to do a new build and I really like the red sea 1000 dimensions. 83 by 27 by 25. Really sweet dimensions for what I want. I want to have an in wall and use this red sea as the tank. I really like the plug and play aspect. I hate screwing around with plumbing.

Im well aware of the disdain red sea gets for their customer service and tank failures. I'm hoping that with this series of tanks being eurobraced and and aluminum stand and hopefully better silicone they won't fail. By now surely they should have rectified the problem right?

I also really like glass cages but ughh Joe I'm looking at paying 3k over what red sea sells for the same dimensions and red sea also includes a sump, plumbing and ato, so Id probably be looking at 4k or more to get it to same amount. Yes glass cages is better but 4k more and the waiting period... Idk.

Do you guys think red sea has fixed their tanks? I own a red sea 625 G1 with a support bracket and it's been fine. I would think with euro bracing aluminum stand better silicone the company has fixed the issues.

No one knows yet if they have fixed their tanks... I'll tell you this, they claimed their G2's were stronger than ever and the consensus was issues are fixed but we saw and continue to see how that turned out. I'm not sure I'd put a Red Sea in a wall with all thats possible with them.

It's going to be one of those things that's always going to be in the back of your mind bugging you if today's the day you wake up to a pond on the floor. It could all turn out just fine but no one knows for certain. If you're ok living with that thought then I say go for it.

True, but I thought the issues were with the the other sized tanks. I've never heard of 625 plus leaking. Sounds like the 350, 425 were the culprits. The bigger models have more support and thicker glass.

Also if anyone could point out to me any issues they are doing an in wall red sea id like to know. I can't think of all the unforseen issues

The g2 were also euro bracelets and its also fully supported. Anything less than a 1000 and the front pane is usually just floating. Leaks happen because people dont level it or the stand sags in the middle overtime. Hence why it burst alot in the middle.

Had a 250 and 350 burst on me. But my 425xl 525xl 170 and 200 were all good. I always added a metal l bracket to the stand to make sure its supported fully. My 525xl is a original g1. No issues and seams are still strong

The megathread for Red Sea failures has tanks ranging from the small 170 all the way up to the largest including the 1000. The support is a part of the issues but more so the type of silicone they are using. Some kind of fast cure that no one else uses.

Reason I said I wouldn't put it in the wall is because if it did have an issues you're less likely to spot it before it's too late then there is the hassle of getting it out on a time crunch.

I am running a S1000 G2 that I bought used. The tank is beautiful.

euro braced top and bottom, 19mm glass, corner guards, aluminum stand, front panel support.

I would buy another one used any day with proper inspection. I don't think i would ever spend $ on a new system from redsea though personally.

Ive always bought used or got a good deal. Super hard though to find the exact system I want.

Until they say they have stopped using the silicone which is the problem IMO I will give them a hard pass. I had a reefer 170 with a seam that failed in an upper corner and have a 300 g2 that I'm watching the silicone slowly being destroyed by algae that is just eating into the silicone on one if the seams.

For what Red Sea charges, you can likely get a custom built tank to those same
dimensions... and for less money and more reliability.

No

No lol it's at least 3k. Id pay up to $1500 more but when you start getting into 3 to 4k more I'm like ughh that's just pushing it too far and I still have to do plumbing buy a sump. Quality would probably be better and be able to have the exact dimensions I want with some customisations but I can't push it that far.

Joe @glasscages if you can build me a 77 X 27 X 25 eurobraced, low iron front with aluminum stand and cabinet top for 10k shipped I'll buy it

If you purchase a Red Sea System with Stand, how are you going to use it as an in-wall system? These Systems are Stand-alone and not really meant for in-wall use. I would probably get a Glass Cages or Planet Tank and just build a wood stand since it's in the wall. You should be able to get a 84x30x25 GC for about 3K + shipping. My LFS is a Red Sea Dealer, and they have a new G3 in the showroom and the bracing is much improved.

Not a chance I’m playing Guinea pig, beta tester for a known issue. Not when you’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in damages to my home.

The stand was never the issue. The lack of support was never the issue. People not “leveling” was never the issue. All excuses because if any of them were the actual issue, we’d see leaks from every company. Why don’t we?

From everything I can find, roughly 10-15% of Red Sea tanks failed. So 85-90% of them didn’t. Pretty good odds in most things. You’d clean out Vegas with those odds. But every other company is like 1% failure at most. Who’s gonna win in Vegas? The 85% or 99%?

I think the back panels come off. I believe the red sea 1000 is a aluminum structure with skinned panels so I could take off the back panels to access it. It would be on a room that I could access the sump and the front of the tank would be in the wall.

Idk what do you think the best option would be? Buy a tank have someone build me a stand or something. That would probably be a good option actually

Thats a crazy amount. Is that true??

Probably depends on your timeframe and how handy you are. I would call Glass Cages and tell them what you want and that you don't need a fancy stand because it will be an in-wall system. The Red Sea plan to access it from the rear sounds problematic to me since the system is designed for front access.

Yah I agree. Idk whatever is cheapest and good quality for a tank around 77 inches long, 27 wide 26 tall

Seams like a possibility.

It is true…Glass Cages, and many other builders have reported nearly daily calls for compromised Red Sea tank replacement in recent months…
