Hi guys I currently have a 4ft 165 gallon(DT Volume) tank (4'X2.5'X2.5') and would like to purchase a convict tang. I'm not sure if I'll be overstocking my tank or if the tank is too small for an adult sized convict tang. I'd like to hear other's experiences with convict tangs and their usual adult size in captivity. I know that the max size is listed as 8 inches but I'm sure very few specimens reach that size. Any input or advise would be appreciated.

Current stocking:
Scribbled Rabbitfish
Foxface Lo
Tomini Tang
Copperband Butterfly
Dusky Wrasse
Six-Line Wrasse
Midas Blenny
3XClownfish
Firefish
2XBangai Cardinals

It is more a function of open water swimming space than tank size. Since each aquarium is different in that regard (due to rock structure) I came up with a formula that can help you ballpark the numbers:

This is just a guideline, and of course, more room is always better.

Hi Jay, thanks for your response. This was a very interesting article and very useful for considering a fish for your tank.

Seems a bit small, they are lightning fast fish and powerful swimmers.
