Copperband help!

Good lesson here is that anyone looking to buy a copper band should confirm they are eating at the LFS before bringing them home. If they are eating, confirm what they are being fed.

I came so close to picking one up then heard how problematic they could be.

However, I do recall seeing a video from Ryan and Elliot @serious reefs who commented on how easy they were, so idk…

If I could have I would have :) was the lone copperband in a bag, and he looked to be in great shape when I got him. Glad that it is on the mend now.

Ok miracles do happen….i tried worms now about an hour after the dip and it suddenly ate about 8-10 worms!!!

So the dip certainly did something. @Jay Hemdal should i dose something in that tank to help it back to normal?

Ive have pazipro, metroplex and kanaplex on hand. Will also be adding a mystery wrasse tonight to this hospital tank.

Dont want to overdo medications but certainly want to build on this breakthrough after 7 days.

It’s been 3+ days of good black worms feeding, so the hunger strike certainly appears to be over for now

Re: QT….here is my challenge.
Mystery wrasse and CBB together, getting alone fine and eating worms, but in my old fish tank with live sand, and some ceramic media. I do have copper power and prazi on hand, with the API copper test kit. Could i get away with this setup as the QT, or do I HAVE to setup another tank with any sand or ceramic? I’d like to move them over 30-45 days so i can settle them in the display before I head out for a vacation around end of November.


I also have to train then on prepares food in that time.

Any suggestions?

my version of QT is hob Fluval AC50 filter, 20 long petco tank, polyplab ceramic seeded block from a clean tank, if not you can cycle a tank very quick with probidio start up. Stated using this stuff on my last two QT’s and it cycled the tank super fast with fish in it! It was insane. I cycled a 45 icecap aio new system in 24 hours with the probidio stuff. Insane!!
I don’t use sand unless I have a wrasse that needs it. One of my current tanks happens to have a two wrasses. A naoko and a Christmas wrasse. Both doing real good! The sand I got is UNS non bio sand. Just basic sand. Copper is steady with this system at 2.3ppm. Ammonia never got above .25, and it’s now at 0ppm.

I like polyplab genesis ceramic rock being I have been running them since they have come out. And they don’t absorb any copper or leech out any metals. The most awesome product for QT systems if you ask me.

Does the tank they are in now contain ANY invertebrates? If not, you might be able to remove most of the sand and then run a standard coppersafe/praziquantel quarantine. You would need to know the EXACT volume of the tank though - the API test kit is accurate, but the color change is too indistinct for most people to get a good read - so knowing the proper exact dose to begin with is vital. With the Hanna meter, you can add a partial dose and then keep adding partial doses until you hit 2.25 ppm.
