Coral acclimation. How do you know when it's time to move it up?

What cues do you look for to let you know it is time to move your newly added coral into higher light?

I'm wondering, because I recently purchased some acropora frags. I was out of room in the bottom of my tank, so I set them on a flat rock halfway up in my tank while I made room. Before I could get the other corals moved to make room for acclimation, the new acros were showing as good or better polyp extension than they were when I bought them. So, I left them there.

I'm a bit confused by this, as my LFS uses LEDs and I have T5's with an actinic strip. They are sourced locally, and the source also uses LEDs. Shouldn't the difference in lighting make my corals unhappy?
What am I missing here? Good PE=happy coral right?

I think when it comes to light sources and corals Par is Par , maybe your t5 are offering better par than the LFS due to you probably having new bulbs - where as the LFS may have older LEDS .

Also water quality is a factor as well as flow . I have seen many a drab coral at the LFS flourish in my tank and colour up .

Also I believe acros do enjoy high light so starting at the midpoint in the tank makes sense to me as too low and not enough would be bad as well
