Coral Cutters - Rusting

Is stainless steel coral cutters suppose to rust? Actually, anything that's labelled as stainless steel does rust but is rust resistant is it not? Meaning that if it stays wet it'll rust eventually?

STAINLESS means exactly what is says, stains less, it will rust, you can't prevent that. Until they make STAINFREE steel, we are stuck with rusty tools unless you can find some made out of titanium.

Steelwool and some Hoppes gun oil work great to remove rust, then rinse in extremely hot (boiling) water.

There's different grades of stainless steel and all depends on how much ferrous material they put in.
After using them in salt water I highly recommend rinsing them off and then drying them.

I have used oil on severely rusted tools before to free them up and then wipe the oil off. I have never boiled tools, as was mentioned, but I would rinse them off in water before using them again in my tank.

Ever heard of an Autoclave? We use them to sterilize Tattoo needles among other things.
Extremely hot (Boiling) water or Steam will lift Oil Residue because Oil floats on water and Heat expands molecules.

Yes, we use them at work but a much bigger scale. I can walk into the one at work. LOL

You can soak any bone/coral cutter that's locked up from rust by soaking in vinegar. It will take some time, about a week. Once done they are like brand new.
