If you can get a sump hooked up it opens a whole new world of options .
Only thing I am worried about is if I drill into my tank and it cracks...oof. And also if I get a hob overflow...scared of something bad happening.
What about a refugium or algae scrubber. Don't they do the same thing without bubbles or noise?

Yup, your missing the bubble trap cup that the skimmer flows into, therefore those bubbles find it easy to escape.I literally glued the impeller to the motor shaft and I need to help it get started but after that it runs silent. I cleaned the impeller and motor with a toothbrush and cleaned the ventury/ air port with a cotton swab. Still getting some microbubbles though. Here is a pic of the bubbles in the vortex chamber. I feel as though the bubbles are way too low.

I’ve used this skimmer on the tank below a 65g for 4 years running, best skimmer for the price point I’ve used, after all, it’s just a place to make bubbles.
Not sure why yours goes straight into a sponge, mine goes into a loose sponge in a little bucket. This sponge must remain clean, say once per week, or it will overflow and bubbles escape.
Been running for more than a month.
I put mine on a 55 gallon; it’s made by Instant Ocean. Once I rebuilt the pump, it runs much quieter. This advice was great and the thread made me think about something I hadn’t previously considered, so thanks again everyone!

Can you explain how your bubble trap works? Where does the water come out of it? Where does the outlet end? On top of the sponge or below? And anything else that might help.
