32 gallon tank? That’s tough.

@CodyBot this count also do NOT include frags. For example, I have two bubble gum digitata colonies on both sides of my tank, but that app you see in the recording only lists the one frag when I buy it and put it in my tank. That way I have a timeline of the inhabitants and how long they've been around, but sometimes I have two acros from one frag I purchased, or zoas in two places that I fragged, etc. The count is unique inhabitants with purchase date and price.

I meant to say that a 32 gallon tank is difficult in general.

Years ago when Radions first came out, they used a guy's tank here in Houston to be their posterchild for a clean, sexy reef tank. His name was @d2mini and he might still be kicking around, but the older reefers on here will know him. Last I heard from him, he's doing freshwater tanks now. Anywho, one day I made the long haul out to his place to buy a monti cap frag, mostly just to pick his brain. At that time, the largest tank I ever had was a 40 breeder. I was telling him about the frustrations of how everything is doing well then BAM! Something happens and I'd lose corals. His advice to me was to not sweat it. If you can make a reef tank thrive in a 40 breeder then you can make it happen in any tank, and he wasn't wrong. That was the most difficult reef tank I ever had.

I said that to say that if you're doing well with a 30ish gallon tank, then you're doing well in general. They're tough to dial in.

Edit: Just checked d2mini's account and it looks like he's back into saltwater! Hello, stranger! I heard from Gregg that you might be getting back into saltwater but it looks like you already did!

They might be hard to dial in, I don't know. I think I've had good success with relatively low loss of corals. I have one doser for all for reef and just have to dial that in with new additions to the tank, otherwise things have been working out great.

I've bought most everything with the mindset that I will upgrade, for example two Noopsyche k7 pro v3s could be utilized in a larger setup. My wavemaker is a Red Sea Reefwave 45, I only run it at 30% max, way oversized for this tank. Eventually I will upgrade, but have to balance out budgets and what is acceptable to put into this hobby. First year, I way overshot budget due to livestock of corals.

Mind you, the lessons I learned were about 8-9 years ago when it came to that 40 breeder. My DIY LEDs were controlled by digital plug-in timers, there wasn't really an apex or automatic testers, and we were just starting to break from the idea that absolute zero nutrients were the best idea. The community and amount of information that has become available since then is night and day.

I'm actually surprising myself with how good I am being. I did get an angel with the foxface, but I was already paying shipping so I didn't want to waste the opportunity. shoulda got my manderines too. they were quite affordable.

That's what I keep telling my wife. I either spend $80-100 on a Foxface local or order one online and have to spend $150 for 3 fish to avoid paying shipping. She just kind of glares at me.
