Could DIY coral snow (calcium carbonate) have killed my Engineer Gobies?

I had two healthy, active Engineer Gobies, about 5.5-6 inches long. They both ate well, and were pretty active at night and would come out from under the rocks at feeding time.

A couple months ago, I made a mixture of DIY coral snow as suggested by @SunnyX

I have dosed this 3 times, dosing a less amount than suggested. I have done nothing else different.

My two Engineer Gobies have since died. Everything else in the tank, including fish, Coral Banded Shrimp, snails, hermit crabs, and coral, is fine.

I expect it's highly unlikely.

Could it have? Maybe. But it is not very likely. I have done this for 8+ years. @jedimasterben was the first one to post about this. Before Sunny did. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-kz-coral-snow-with-97-purity.211722/
Thanks. I agree that it's likely. However, it's the only thing that I've done different. I was thinking that since they are scaleless, it may done something detrimental to them?

I have been using his snow weekly for a year with no fish or invert issues.

How long did you have your fish?
