Could DIY coral snow (calcium carbonate) have killed my Engineer Gobies?

I had two healthy, active Engineer Gobies, about 5.5-6 inches long. They both ate well, and were pretty active at night and would come out from under the rocks at feeding time.

A couple months ago, I made a mixture of DIY coral snow as suggested by @SunnyX

I have dosed this 3 times, dosing a less amount than suggested. I have done nothing else different.

My two Engineer Gobies have since died. Everything else in the tank, including fish, Coral Banded Shrimp, snails, hermit crabs, and coral, is fine.

I expect it's highly unlikely.

Could it have? Maybe. But it is not very likely. I have done this for 8+ years. @jedimasterben was the first one to post about this. Before Sunny did. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/diy-kz-coral-snow-with-97-purity.211722/
Thanks. I agree that it's likely. However, it's the only thing that I've done different. I was thinking that since they are scaleless, it may done something detrimental to them?

I have been using his snow weekly for a year with no fish or invert issues.

How long did you have your fish?

Not sure if you came to a conclusion about this, but I had the same problem recently. I had a new sailfin tang In my tank only a few days but was looking fine. I do the DIY coral snow and two days later it was dead. All my other tank inhabitants are fine though.

I would guess something else. Was the Tang QT'd?
I have started the coral snow also I have done 4 treatments with it. I use it once a week. I was expecting something to be unhappy about it but fish and corals dont seem to notice. All corals stay open, fish are out swimming around acting normal. You would think with all that particulate in the water something would react but they dont. Besides clarity I have not seen much of a difference in the tank at all. The sand bed may be a little cleaner but that may be from me cleaning it more or better.
