Crazy high aluminum on ICP

This is what happens when you run phos guard in a reactor without a media bag. This in spite of super well rinsing.

Will this come down with water changes or is this mess bound into the rocks?

I had the same issue when I ran it in media bags in my nano. A lot of water changes and no more PhosGuard fixed it over time.
 
I had similar readings a year ago and did not notice any negative effects, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It will come down with water changes over time but doesn't immediately require you to perform large water changes. If it was bound to rocks the ICP test wouldn't be able to detect it and it doesn't appear to be leaching off the rocks like phosphate after water changes if you meant that ☺️
 
While I’m not sure that aluminum is high enough to be a substantial problem, it is pretty high and why I recommend avoiding white media such as Phosguard.

It will decline in various ways if you remove it, but I am not sure how fast.

Does loose GFO show up as iron on an ICP? What are your thoughts about elevator parameters there?

No, particulates bigger than nanoparticles do not make it into an icp. They are typically filtered out first.

What elevated parameters are you asking about?
 
I was wondering if I switched to GFO from Phosguard if I might run into the same thing with iron that I did with Al . I was exceptionally careful with the Phosguard in terms of rinsing it, and using a mesh bag, apparently didn’t matter.. Phosguard lowered my phosphate from .7 down to .08 but at the cost of the aluminum spike.

Iron is not an apparent issue even at high levels, and GFO does not drive it high.

That said, it will bind some trace elements, as does the Phosguard and most any other way to reduce phosphate.
 
Could you explain why my iodine with critically low and my manganese was undetectable I use Red Sea blue bucket did not have but about 15 lps frags in my tank . calcium and magnesium were good as they were being supplemented

do you know if those two elements are bound to aluminum oxide or ferric oxide?

Iodine won’t be, but manganese may be.

That said, both are depleted rapidly by algae (macro, micro, etc) and other organisms, and water changes generally won’t keep them at salt mix levels.

Iodine won’t be, but manganese may be.

Iodine was 1.96 with a normal value of 63 micro grams /liter barium was also critically low per ICP . was wondering if aluminum oxide bound those two elements

I do not consider barium to be important. There’s no evidence that corals or any other organism on earth requires it. It does get incorporated into depositing calcium carbonate in place of calcium.

Oceamo tests binding of various media here. Bear in mind these tests are intentionally exaggerating the effects a lot (huge media amount in small water volume) to be able to detect them.
