Hi all,

I'm going to pull the hermits from my tank and would like to just make a hermit only tank for now. They've been hyper aggressive with each other, snails, fish, coral. . . . It's time they go. hahaha.
I can't just get "rid" of them so I want to set up a side hermit tank. What kind of parameters do they really need?

Will an air stone and a HOB filter be enough?

It's just hermits, substrate and some rocks.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Ooh what kind are they? I really like this idea! Depending on how many and the types and size you have I bet you could keep a 2.5 or 5 gallon. I would recommend a small HOB filter and an inch of sand with macroalgae and live rock caves. You could check out the pico sections on nanoreef.com for ideas.

Thanks you two!

I have a 5 gallon I'm setting up. I'll get a HOB.

They're a mix of blue and red dwarves. But also some that are not so "dwarf" that a LFS sold me as such. 3 of them are at least an inch and look like they're ready to battle each other. lol

Thanks again!

I wouldn't even worry about parameters. Just do the water changes in the hermit tank with old tank water from the main display. Maybe run it through a filter sock first if you're doing any sand siphoning.

Five gallons is perfect! How many hermits do you have? If you want more you could try polka dot hermits and band eye hermits!

I just visited a friend that has roughly a 5 gallon tank with macro algae, an air stone, a heater and 2 hermits in it. He also banished the hermits. The tank is for maintaining the macro and the hermits looked fine. Keep the salinity and temp the same as the tank they came from and they’ll be fine.

i have blue legged hermit crabs (3) and they are amazing lol this does not at all contribute to the conversations I'm just putting it out there lol.
