Did a water change today and used all water out of the container. When I was done I picked up my small water container and turned the RODI on. 5 minutes later I hear an alarm in the garage. Turns out I never closed the valve off.

Just a little water on the floor. Last time I made this mistake water actually flowed for 3 hours and went into my wife closet. \

Spend the money and get a cheap little leak detector and save yourself a major headache.

They're nice, cheap; BRS also sells them. They sensor detaches so you can remotely mount the alarm (most people doesn't make sense) but I can see that it would be useful. I have one around my water heater, but all of these sensors suffer the same flaw; they have to make contact exactly where the sensor is. That's fine if you have a totally even floor, but my basement isn't exactly level (made in the 50's) so when I had a leak in my sump, even though I had 4 sensors surrounding the tank, the water drained right past them and dumped about 30 gallons of salt water onto the wood (click together) floor destroying it.

Just be conscious of the fact the sensor has to actually touch water and some uneven floors can make them useless.
