Hey guys. I had no luck resealing my 54 corner bow. one air bubble in the silicone and it was ruined :/. New 54 corner bow front on order now. I need to build a custom sump. I was thinking about using a 10 gallon tank and place a Reef Octopus XP1000 ss placed in it on an plastic shelf to help raise it a few inches of the bottome of the sump. Question is: would a 10 gallon tank be sufficient enough should the power go out when I'm not around and not over flow the tank?

10 gallon tank is 20x10x12". I was also thinking I could place a custom tank order with my LFS for a 15 gallon high 20x10x18" . I was thinking the added 5 gallons would be a better buffer in case the power goes out.

It depends on how low the returns are in the display. Noramally your water will drain down to the point where your return line sucks in air and breaks the siphon. The biggest tank you can fit is best IMO and you wont regret it in the long run I promise.

I did end up ordering the 54 corner with the overflow built in. I'm sure I'll have to plumb the supply to the sump near the very top of the tank but, I'm very new to plumbing. I've only had a hang on the back over flow in the past, and I just drilled a hole in the U tube of the overflow to break that vaccuum right away.
