A few thoughts:

I agree. Wattage alone doesn’t determine performance. That’s why independent PAR testing is useful. If lens design, LED efficiency, spectrum, and distribution make up for lower wattage, the resulting PAR map should reflect that. In this case, I don’t think it does.

Absolutely. Those are the variables that determine the final output. The independent testing measured the end result of all those factors combined, not just the input wattage. One point I found interesting is that the Pixel and AI Prime produced essentially the same PAR per watt (1.13 vs. 1.12 respectively), suggesting similar overall efficiency despite the different designs.
“I’ve got DALUA lights running over my own systems, and they’ve grown everything from softies and LPS all the way into SPS without issue.”
I don’t doubt your experience, but personal success doesn’t necessarily demonstrate comparative performance. Many lights can grow healthy corals; the question is how much usable light they produce and how evenly they distribute it.

That may very well be true. My only observation is that once supplemental bars become part of the recommendation, the discussion shifts from evaluating the Pixel by itself to evaluating a combined lighting system.
“If you wanted more headroom for SPS down the road, you could always add a third Pixel later—that’s one of the things I really like about the system. It’s modular, so you don’t have to replace everything if your tank evolves.”
That’s a reasonable path, but it also suggests that additional fixtures may be needed as lighting demands increase. At that point, I think it’s worth comparing the total system cost with other available options like the Nicrew HyperReef 200 plus controller for $370

Price is certainly an important consideration. Personally, I find the value proposition difficult at roughly $239 for a ~20 W fixture with a mount, dimmer, and power supply, but reasonable people may weigh that differently.

I don’t doubt that. My view is simply that independent measurements provide a more objective basis for comparing fixtures than anecdotal experience alone.
