Okay so after a few days of contemplating how I'm going to do my doors, I've decided to use the original cut out I made for the door opening and then simply attach some frame molding to hide the cuts. It also allows it to look completely flush with the skin. I used stronger magnets as well and it seems to be working perfect so far. Going to do the side door tomorrow then it's on to sanding and attaching corner moldings and whatnot. What do you guys think???

I added false "drawers" on the left side and also finished the side door. I added the one handle just to see how it would look. Now I'm trying to figure out the corner and side trimmings. Kind of stumped on this one [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

Here it is!!! Just about 95% done. Just need to wait for some wood filler to dry so I can sand the rest and then it's on to painting!! I'm so proud of my first DIY tank stand [emoji23][emoji23]

Well it’s been awhile since I’ve updated this thread but it’s been a crazy couple of months for me so production was halted for a bit but I’m finally 100% finished with the stand and I love the outcome! Here’s a couple pics!

Here’s a couple pics with the doors off and lit up

And here’s my Skimz sump! Love how this sump looks [emoji16]

Next up is to paint the back of the tank, then I can set the tank on the stand and start plotting out my plumbing. Slowly but surely getting there! [emoji4]

So outta curiosity... how would I go about not cycling the new tank if I have stuff from my Fluval tank(water and rock, using new sand) I’m thinking of keeping some stuff from this tank so I wasn’t sure if I could just add the water from the old tank and then just top off the rest with fresh saltwater. I’ve never tried this before so I don’t know if it would work, any suggestions??

Use everything from the old tank. Just put old gravel in panty hose and then in sump for bio. I've done this many times and it works fine. You still take a little "cycle hit" but not bad at all compared to starting fresh

I plan on using brand new sand. Gonna try black sand this time around... I’m not expecting a clean transfer as far as ammonia spikes or whatever but I wanted to try and keep this one Coral colony... maybe I’ll just put it in the sump until I have everything going the way I want it.

I switched to bare bottom and my corals were fine. Just keep as much bio alive as possible. Put old sand in panty hose and then in sump for a few months. When you're happy with how things are testing just trash it

Not sure if panty hose will work as the sand I have now is really really fine, I’ll test it out when the time comes.

Not sure if I actually compiled a list of equipment I plan to use on the tank so here it is so far...

What I have:
Skimz UP34 sump
Vortech mp40Qwd
Apex DoS/DDR
(2) AI Prime HD lights

On order:
Skimz SK181 Skimmer (arriving Weds)
Apex 2016 system (picking up tomorrow)
Neptune COR15 return pump (preordered)
300w titanium heater (arriving Weds)

Still searching for:
Another Mp40Qwd

Still tryna figure out what else I want to incorporate with this system. Not sure if I’m gonna do a reactor of any kind.

I wanna plan out my plumbing accordingly tho. I may make a section that’s interchangeable with another piece in case I decide to add more equipment down the line. I’m really hoping Neptune ships out the return pumps soon. They said sometime this month but no specific date yet.

Just picked up my Brand new Apex, I can and can’t wait to set it up but I hear it’s a lot more user friendly this time around so we’ll see.

Question about plumbing.. it’s been awhile since I’ve plumbed a tank... how do I know what size to use? I haven’t gotten my return pump yet but the 2 pipes on the sump are measured at 1.25” OD... is that what I stick with or do I go bigger?

Finished painting the back of the tank, just waiting for my roommate to get home so he can help me move it to the stand [emoji4]

Also am thinking of where to put the Apex DDR and DoS... should I keep them hidden or make a shelf for them on the wall? Hmmmm

It’s all starting to come together now! I just have to order the plumbing parts and get started with that. In the mean time I’m gonna start making some RO water and store it in buckets til I get the tank on top of the stand. My roommate stayed at his gf’s last night so i gotta wait til tonight.

I’m about to order a bunch of plumbing parts from BRS and I was just wondering what you guys thought of my rough draft... obviously it’s a lot bigger then how it’s going to look in person but I wanted an exploded view. Give me some critique!!
