DD Jump Guard Pro advice

Hi all,

Today, my Orange Spot Goby unfortunately jumped out of the tank, so I’ve decided it’s time to get a jump guard. After doing some research, I found the DD Jump Guard Pro.

I’m using three Radion XR30 G5 lights with the mounts shown in the attached pictures. I was thinking of using one kit for each mount. Do you think that’s a good idea? Would it make the jump guard unstable?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions on how to set this up better.

I think if you use those cutout pieces to modify it, you should be fine. It will have enough contact with the rim to be stable. Just make the cutouts as small as possible so there's no significant space between your light mounts and the jump guard, jumpers have a habit of finding any space they can fit thru.

My next question is about feeding portals. I know DD offers dedicated ones for their jump guard, but they seem quite small. I was thinking of making two separate jump guards (split exactly in half) to make feeding and maintenance easier.

Does anyone have better ideas on how to set this up? My tank is 5 feet long.

I used the big cutout it came with for the overflow and purchased the smaller ones for light mounts. Added a feed port later, it was a much needed upgrade. On my 4’ tank I added a center brace as the instructions advised. He one lid is working out great. I know you have a 5’ tank but wanted to share my experience.

Hopefully these help. With your lighting setup I’d probably do two braces between the lights. I have adjusted my original lid layout due to lighting changes. It wasn’t hard but I haven’t gotten around to recutting the aluminum, and it’s working so hard to get motivated. Very nice product. Saves money relative to a full custom lid, but still nice and looks good.

On my 6' tank I used 2 separate kits which IMO makes it easier to deal with. I also bought a extra cross bar which added extra strength. I used these as a way to grab the top instead of the handles they provide.
I don't remember if the feeding portals were available at the time.
