Hey there, I am looking for a diatomaceous earth powder that I can pickup locally to charge my DE filter.

that said I came across a brand (pool time) that Home Depot carries and its in stock locally

I can’t see the ingredients list from the stock picture on the website but they did provide a safety data sheet.

could someone help me decipher this and let me know if this looks standard for DE powder? It’s says 100% DE, but then I’m confused by the 70% cristobalite and 5% quartz... is that normal for DE powder or are those additives?

thanks!!

It is all silica of one form or another.

DE can boost soluble silicate and diatoms, but I do not see any particular chemical issue with this material.

How did this turn out for you? I’m getting ready to buy the same DE powder brand some my local Home Depot, I used food grade DE and it did absolutely nothing lol hope it doesn’t cause issues later on…

What were you hoping it would do that it did not?

All it did was cloud it up for like 20 minutes lol all good now tho

I’ve never used that type of filter, but are you sure you had the right bag to contain it.

That said, I can certainly believe that different particle sizes will behave differently. :)

I have been using Pool Diatom powder for decades. I used it last week. 😃
I Just finished using this method with my Marineland polishing filter… I cannot get this tank clear for the life of me… I tried the pool time brand DE… water is clear but there’s just these small white particles constantly floating around… back to the drawing board… lol

6 tea spoons for DE in a bucket… let the marineland polishing filter soak up DE, place filter into tank…
