Watch the clowns feces for the next couple weeks. Otherwise, it happens. Fish die. Heck, everything eventually dies! It could have been older when you bought it or it could've had some underlying health issues. If your clowns are doing fine and the water parameters are normal, there is no reason to freak out.

trust me, i had a lot of algae, he just did not eat it for some reason.

While your clowns may have prevented it, these guys often will not pick at hair algae and other of the really annoying nuisance algae. People often buy these guys thinking they will help and often times they wont. Those just aren't the kind of algae they are after.
