So, my CRTT has been running great for months.

I treated the tank with chemi-clean last night, (which makes my skimmer go nuts0. And... this morning my CRTT calcium reactor was stalled out. Light bulb. I think the bubbles in the reaction chamber foamed up and got into the circulation pump intake.

Kept happing all day and then it hit me... it's the chemi-clean! Will report back later this week once I run the carbon to clear out the chemi clean.

No… , just adjust so it doesn’t overflow. If you turn it off, then you should probably add air air stones to maintain oxygen exchange.

(Just also Need to also adjust the flow in your crtt calcium reactor so it doesn’t stall).

After I ran carbon and turned the UV sterilizer back on 24 hours later, I was able to return the CRTT to its normal settings.

Here are the chemiclean instructions

  1. Aquarium oxygen levels must be increased using heavy aeration or a large air stone.
  2. Turn off any UV sterilizers and ozonizers and remove any Chemi-pure or carbon during treatment.
  3. Continue using a protein skimmer, although skimmer may require adjustment or removal of collection cup to prevent excessive overflow.
  4. Maintain normal water flow using pumps and powerheads.
