If you can run it without the cup so the water goes back into the tank, that is best to keep oxygen up. That's what I did, though mine did not really overflow much.
Thank you so much for the quick reply! Mine was over flowing like crazy! So I unplugged it. But I did add an air bar that is producing quite a bit of extra oxygen. I also have a power head and a gyre pointed at the surface. Do you think that will be enough?

Hard to know, but probably.

i’m in the same boat as you. I have chemi clean but I’m exhausting all options before i go there. I just picked up a maxi jet 1200 an a little vacuum attachment. I’m going to vacuum the detritus off the bottom of the sump to see if that helps.

Keep us updated with the chemi clean

that doesn’t look that bad. Mine is far worse
It has been pretty bad. But I have been cleaning it out every single day. I went like 3 days without cleaning, even still using the coral snow with Microbacter 7 and MAN! It got out of control quickly! So I did one last really good cleaning yesterday, and started the chemi-clean first thing this morning!🤞🏻

I will definitely log what all goes on. So far so good. But only a few hours in.

Chemiclean is the antibiotic tylosin, according to an expert analytical chemist friend of mine who tested it himself.

It will remain active for some time, and may still be active in my tank. It (or the changed microbiome) may also have been a contributor to the final demise of my magnifica that was having issues. But it did a great job on cyano in my tank, albeit slower than expected taking multiple days. Still no cyano well after treatment.

It may be skimmed out, and it will bind to particles such as organics and mineral surfaces. That may be the primary way it is removed from the bulk water.

It also chemically degrades in water through a variety of different natural processes.
I wonder whether Organo-MS could detect tylosin? We could answer questions about its concentration over time and skimmer removal. A Microbiome test before and after treatment might be useful too.

Hello,
yes, we can detect tylosin and other macrolides - erythromycine is already among the "targeted analytes", and i am currently waiting for a multi-macrolide standard to arrive (ordered many months ago 🤨) so we can also provide quantitative data on tylosin and several other related compounds.

Best regards, Christoph

All the analytical pieces will be in place to perform an interesting study and address questions about the effect on the microbiome.

I used Chemiclean to get rid of cyano about 11 weeks before sending an Organo-MS test to Christoph and it came back clean, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, and metronidazole all below detection limits.

That all said for those running Chemiclean right now. I have used UltraLife to clear out Cyano in the past on full SPS tanks with no issues at all. The Chemiclean that I used this time did the same job as the UltraLife product, but it took about two weeks total before I felt I had the skimmer and everything working normal, as opposed to Ultralife that was only about 4 days.

I think the elimi NP would be OK to keep using.

I never really did a water change except my regular 1% daily. I'm not sure I see the great benefit of the recommended 20% change (it leaves 80% of whatever one is trying to remove), and in my case that would be 50 gallons and not worth the effort.
Hey Randy, didn’t you say you left chemo-clean for longer than the recommended 48 hours? I ask because while my tank is clear of cyano now, my time is very tight until the weekend. This would be 7 days. Do you see any issues with this as long as my tank has good oxygenation?

At 48 h it had a long way to go to declare victory. I never really did anything to halt the process except turn on my skimmer after a while, I’m not sure how well the antibiotic is skimmed out.
