I just went bare bottom for the first time. The flow is turned up a bit and is doing its job as far as pushing the detritus to a small corner. Every few days a small clump collects in the same corner. I normally do water changes once a week and vac that portion then. Would I be better served by removing it every few days as opposed waiting until the water changes once a week? Pic attached it is in the bottom right corner.

For clarification I know that detritus can play a role in the biodiversity of a reef tank but I was told by a person more experience than me to get rid of it once it piles up as is just excess and will needlessly dirty up the water.

Honestly I wouldn't do it every day, that seems like an unnecessary commitment.

You don't have to do it every day!

@Tahoe61 Thank you for feedback. I agree. BTW are you in Arizona? I am in Chandler
I am in Green Valley, way south of you. In the land of few LFS. :)

How big is the tank? I have been doing research on smaller tanks, picos. Some individuals do actually siphon detritus every day and do a small water change.

I have a reefer 300 65g TV and all my detritus settles in one corner. It also happens to be the same corner my bristletooth tang has chosen as its toilet so that helps. My system runs low nutrients and I only do small water changes of 2g once a week sometimes once ever 2 weeks and that's when I vacuum it out.
