DI Resin

I wish I would’ve taken a pic before I changed it… Anyway, I have a BRS 4-stage RODI, been using it without changing filters or resin for a year. I only have a 20 gallon so it’s not pumping out a lot each week. I’ve noticed my silicates creeping up slowly in my tank, TDS always reads zero but I had read that silicates and some other things in water won’t show up on TDS readings? There’s always something new to learn lol. The DI resin was mostly the same color as it’s always been, only a portion on the bottom had changed colors, maybe the first inch or so. Also, when the system runs, the water level in the canister only went up about an inch, it was passing quickly through the resin. Now that I’ve replaced it, the whole canister fills up with water, as if it’s taking longer to squeeze through the resin. What’s normal and what’s not? Was it packed too loosely before and the water wasn’t being treated properly?

Both are normal. Sometimes the canister doesn’t fill up all the way and that’s okay. Other times it fills up all the way. Mine has done it both times just let it run normally and eventually it will fill up. Silicates shouldn’t be getting through. Do you have the option to flush the system before and after use? Even though you only have a 20g of your water has high tds it will still get used fast and might only last 3-5 months

Both are normal. Sometimes the canister doesn’t fill up all the way and that’s okay. Other times it fills up all the way. Mine has done it both times just let it run normally and eventually it will fill up. Silicates shouldn’t be getting through. Do you have the option to flush the system before and after use? Even though you only have a 20g of your water has high tds it will still get used fast and might only last 3-5 months

I hadn’t changed out the membranes and filters yet because to me it doesn’t seem like they were even close to being exhausted, the tap water here usually runs between 80-100 TDS. I’ve seen what the worn membranes look like and mine still look brand new.

I hadn’t changed out the membranes and filters yet because to me it doesn’t seem like they were even close to being exhausted, the tap water here usually runs between 80-100 TDS. I’ve seen what the worn membranes look like and mine still look brand new.

The membranes last a long time upwards of 2years. If tds is still reading zero then your good to go. Just change them if it puts out 1 or more
