Diamond drill bit on plastic

can I use my diamond drill bit to drill a hole in a five gallon bucket Or will it heat up too much? Thanks in advance

Edit: if not, what bit can I use to make a 2" hole?

Thanks, plastic, other than pvc, never appeared on my drill list so I wasn't sure what I can use

You’re welcome. You’d probably wreck the diamond bit if you used it

Part of the problem is when you cut plastic it heats up and can become liquidy, if you get that in between the diamond bits of the drill, it's darn near impossible to get it all out, and it may negatively effect future glass cuts.

Rotizip will work too, but the best tool is a wood hole saw bit.

U can use a diamond bit if you already have one but they don't have the bit that acts as a guide that a hole saw does. Hole saws are pretty cheap.

Ditto the above comments. Diamond bits are meant to grind rather than cut. A diamond hole saw bit will simply heat up, melt the plastic and get gummed up.

A plain cheap hole saw bit will do just fine. Jig saw or rotozip tool will also work, but if you’re planning on using a uniseal, stick with a hole saw.
