did I construct a detritus death bomb

Welllllllll......

I used a coarse grain black antagonists substrate in my sump. Its about 3 to 4" deep 24" wide 17" long running on my 150 with calerpa growing.

It has recently come to my attention that I should not have used a coarse substrate because it is aerobic and the detritus will simply settle in the crevices rot and collect.

Can I add fine sand to fill the voids? Should I remove it all and use all fine sand? Medical mud?

Ps super heavily stocked with pods and growing cyano now. Ugh how to separate the pods?

Convince me your methods and show me the light to success.

Thanks in advance. Before I did this I only had all in one tanks and a sump was new to me when I started this 100% diy tank ill make a post on that soon.

Very. I cant remember exactly its been running about 6 months. Its Hawaiian black maybe 3.5 mm roughly

I think you'll be ok. You could always run filter socks

There is about 10 million pods I dont know how much they actually clean it up but thanks for the input I have not been running a sock

Put some macro algae and they will go in it then once a month or week or whatever, shake it out in the display tank to move some up for fish and coral food
