I check in and see what is going on ( mostly the classifieds) over on Reef Central every once in a while, but lately I get this,

"The forum software is being upgraded. The forums are being closed for new posts until the upgrade is completed. Thank you for your patience."

Been this way for about a week.

Anyone have any inside info?

Not sure what went on in the lounge. I avoided it.
I realize it was barely existing lately, but always hoped it would stick around.
I was also a member of a small reef forum called reef frontiers that basically died too. There is still a faint presence of a heart beat, but not much.

Probably software upgrade.

I still saw activity not too long ago, I check in just to see if my password still works.

If you have been reefing since 2000 then you would have known about reef.org. That basically became only a place for lounge (sump) posting. The reef related people slowly moved away. A couple years ago it was really like two or three posters just leaving the light on...then poof....the domain name got bought and the site was gone. There was volumes of info there.

I'm always hesitant of getting used to any site now and relying on being able to access info. I was on a local reef club site....we left the RC club area for whatever reason.....poof....gone by 2015. I had some decent pics of a build I was doing which I didn't have copies of.....gone.

It died a few years back with the great Lounge revolt!!!
;)
:)
LOL I remember that! If I'm not mistaken, you, and a few others spearheaded that revolt! Exactly how many times did you get perma banned? lol

RC has been slowly bleeding out for years. The power hungry nature, and the general feeling of holiness from the mod team is what eventually killed it. When the owner/admin is never around to wrangle in their mods when they get to overbearing is what kills most forums.

Seen it too many times over the years to quite a few forums that aren't reef related.

While there is a plethora of knowledge back on RC, and that info will be missed, I say good riddance to bad rubbish.

Guilty as charged. ;) My 3rd and final lifetime ban was for alleged 'Character Assasination' of a certain moderator.

It works but can't seem to search for old threads. Old forum links don't work even if you add "forum." to the start which is strange. Hope they fix it as that site has lots of good stuff despite most of that good stuff being old at this point.

It's not completed yet. It's an ongoing process. The basics are there, still some bugs to work out.,
Yeah I just tried to make post in a thread that was started in Dec. 2021 and it would not.

It actually did post even though I gave up waiting after 4-5 minutes

Johnnike. funny I thought you were good with the moderators, the lounge is where they all hung out, I did love their sense of humor and knowledge, but not the most accepting place, they had their stick and they kept to it. Unfortunately RC did a really good job of chasing away almost all of the people who made a difference in this hobby, leader, imitators and the lounge just joking here

Being reconnected to reefing after many years, I joined Reef Central a few months back and asked a question. I didn’t get any response and kept checking for days. It was then I realized the site was almost dead. Perhaps with the new update, the owner and moderators are trying to revive it with a new attitude and a different philosophy.

I was good with all but 1 moderator. ;)

It is around and still the only way to get ahold of some of the great reefers unless you have their email or phone numbers.

Don't think that this place is not heading for the same fate. Most of the experienced already left or only lurk and the policies allow the unexperienced and loud to harm the ones who need help the most. If you are lucky, some of the good ones will still maintain and repsond to their build threads. I don't know what replaces r2r, but something will.

I check in on RC every time I sit in front of my computer, just like I do here. What I've found is that the only place there's any action is the lounge. I find it sad that there is so little activity over there.

Oh - and Hi John!!! Hope all is well with you. About 3 years from retirement here and can't wait!

Ok, this thread blew my mind.

I've stepped away from the online part of this hobby for a while. My tank is pretty much running on auto pilot.

Anyway, since I haven't been feeling well the last few days I fired up my laptop and looked at a few places. One of them was RC.

There was 6 members and 19 guest on the site. I couldn't believe it. Back in like 2004ish the first page of the reef section would turn over in minutes. There were thousands of people on that site daily.

I agree with the over moderation killing it statement. It's sad but it's true. And I hate their new format. Truly awful.

Glad to see some familiar names here.
