Came home to find my favia with a couple pieces missing from him. Either one of my shrink or hermits was munching, or he is decaying?

If you can get a photo with more white light we could give you a good diagnosis....at this point I can't see the edges of the missing tissue which is a telling sign to me.
Alright, when the lights are white today I'll snap a pic

No coral near it. I have a cleaner shrimp and a pistol. And two hermit crabs.

Yeah my pistol and goby move sand pretty regularly. This favia rarely ever gets any sand on him though. You're thinking sand got on him and did this?

Chemistry is in line? No possibility that a piece of salt creep landed on the coral?

I've seen it happen before. It was just a thought of course.

I suppose that is a possibility. I left for a couple hours, and came back to find that. I've had a peppermint shrimp tear into one of my favias before, thought maybe that was what happened.

Could be, has the tissue loss stopped? Ive had all types of critters/worms eat a hole in a favia to call it home lol. Yours doesnt look bad either, looks like its going to heal fine if you ask me. If the recession continues, id try to give it a dip and move it
