Hi everyone, today I'm going to show a project that I started in the last months. In the last 15 years I have worked with reefs tanks, but always bigger than 60 g. This time the focus was to mount a fake cube, prioritizing invertebrates and corals.

So let´s go

Specifications

Display
L x W x H = 50 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm = 80 L ~ 21 g

Illumination
Kessil A360W Tuna Blue

Back sump
L x W x H = 50 cm x 13 cm x 40 cm = 26 L ~ 7 g
Divided into 3 compartments

First Compartment- 17 cm

Heater = 100W
Pump 1000 L /h --> Chiller = 1/8 HP
Skimmer = Bubble Magnus QQ2
Cerâmics

In the bottom is the chiller pump, and ceramic layers for fixing the bacteria. The chiller pump keeps water in constant movement through the ceramics, improving the biological filtration

Second compartment - 8 cm
Carbon and Poly filter

Third compartment - 25 cm

Return Pump = 1000 L / h used as circulation pump too
some bio-balls just to break down possible microbubbles, and the water replenishment system

Fish

Initially the aquarium was temporary home for a Lion Fish Zebra

It is currently occupied by a Bangai and a Six line

Food - 2-3 x per day using small pieces of frozen food, which are offered one by one with tweezers to avoid waste. The food varies between sardines, salmon, squid and shrimp
Once a week the food is enriched with Sera Fishtamin

(At LFS they were eating ration, but in the aquarium they refused to eat any kind of processed food)

Cleaning up Crew

Some hermitages, Nish, turbs and many stomatellas. Turbs and stomatellas reproducing in the aquarium. As in the system there is no leftover food, 1-2x per week I offer small pieces of fish to the hermit (otherwise they begin to die)

Corals

The first lot is composed of
Hammer
Frog
Plate
Duncan
Trumpet
Hairy Mush
Red Mush
Cloves
Pavona
Open (I received almost dead, currently under intensive care)

(Forgot to take a pic of duncan and frog before feeding, tomorrow I will add)

Inverts

Tridacna Crocea (2x)
Feather Duster

Feeding

3 - 4 times per week 1 ml Reef Energy A and 1 ml Reef Energy B
3 - 4 times per week 0.5 ml Phytoplankton (Seachem)
3 - 4 times per week 0.5 ml of Zooplankton (Seachem)
2 - 3 times per week direct feeding in each mouth of coral with sardines, cyclops, mussels among others

This feeding system proved to be efficient in this system.

Most corals have shown accelerated growth, doubling in size from one month to the next

The feather duster is a filtering organism and needs food in the water

The tridacnas also benefited from the addition of phytoplankton, showing a better growth

Supplementation and Maintenance

Currently the system consumes ~ 40 ppm of Calcium and 1.5 dKH per week, Mg consumption is barely perceptible. The supplementation is done with the kit reef funding of Red Sea

5% partial water exchanges weekly. Deionized water and coral salt pro by Red Sea

Average Parameters (Measured with Red Sea Tests)
pH 8.2; Ca 450 ppm; Mg 1300 ppm; Kh 8.5 dKH; NH4 and NO2 = 0; NO3 = 8; PO4 = 0.02
Temp. = 25.3-25.8 ° C; Dens. = 1025

If the skimmer is kept on 24h, the system nutrients approach to 0

Next steps:

The next purchases are focused on acanthastreas, zoanthus, gsp and maybe a new tridacna and another duster

I do not intend to put more fish

Sounds good! Looks like some of your images did not load. When this happens to me I have found going to the “More Options...” button in the post area and then posting the pictures through there usually works.

Looking back to your reefing roots: Did you start with Instant Ocean salt?

  • I started with Instant Ocean salt.

  • I did not start with Instant Ocean salt, but I have used it at some point.
