dimmable ballast

Going to upgrade my lights. Is their any advantages to a dimmable ballast? What is a good brand? Looking at Coarlview 250 Watt mh.

I use lumatek dimmables. I like the fact I can choose to run 250, 250hqi, 400, 400hqi. If my needs change, no need for new ballasts.

I couldn't give you personal comparisons, but the lumatek seemed to have better reviews at the time.
