Hi all. I am going to be adding a couple Orphek OR3 Blue Plus bars to my lighting setup ( currently have 4 Hydra 32's) over my tank, and they are on Mobius and run a custom program. I undersetand the OR3's are currently dimmable. I'd like them to be dimmable, so they can at least ramp up and ramp down. Besides buying the Orphek OR4 upgrade, has anyone come up with a way (DIY) to dim them? Also, does each Light bar have it's own Driver, or can they both run off of one?

Thanks for any input.

First it is possible to run more than one bar off a driver.
Second it is possible to get dimmable drivers for the bars.

Whats possible does depend on what bars you are referring to.
Below is the basic driver parameter. Finding an "exact" driver that is dimmable is unlikely (from history) BUT something "useable with a compromise" is usually possible.

The dimming protocol will be 0-10V (or 1-10v) so you will need to find a controller that is compatible.
GHL has one for about $100. There are cheaper ones.

The tricky part is guessing (or measuring the voltage of your bar at 100%) and finding an equivalent.
Using the or3 90 as an example and the meanwell dimmable driver series below..
The IDLC 45A- 700 will work BUT max output is decreased from 900mA to 700mA
The 38-64V should be fine. The voltage is the key.

Reach out to Orphek and see if the new power supply for the 4 wil work with the 3s. I just replaced my OR3 blue plus with OR 4 UV as supplemental lighting and the new power supply is dimmable via their app. Works great. Also they offer a wiring harness to daisy chain multiple lights. Don’t see why the 4 power supply won’t work with 3s.
