I have a 25-gallon nano tank, and for the past few weeks, I’ve been seeing brownish algae on the glass, sand, and rocks.
Under the microscope it’s moving fast all over around. Some are even spinning

I contacted my LFS, and they suggested increasing feeding, avoiding water changes, and dosing phytoplankton and copepods. Has anyone had success with this?

Photos of the algae?

Sounds like dinos!

Your LFS gave some good advice! Increasing phosphate is most important; try to get it at least 0.10ppm.

Phytoplankton and copepods can’t hurt. If you have a UV sterilizer, that would almost instantly make an impact.

I have this picture under the microscope, the quality is bad.
Yes, it looks like ostreopsis dinos. Raising phosphate and adding a UV sterilizer are the most proven methods to beat it.

I don’t have a sump. Would this kind of UV would work. I’m new with that

Yup, that works to increase the population of good guy type algae’s and bacteria’s but you also need to keep the Dino’s numbers low at the same time by, UV, by daily filter change, and a light dusting of the sand bed.

It takes a few weeks, but if your diligent, the good guy stuff will outcompete that pest and they just disappear.

You’re welcome.

Please report back with the results. :)
I received my UV filter — still not 100% sure if it’s dinos or something else, so I won’t jump to conclusions just yet. But honestly, I haven’t seen my water and this clear in two months.
