Id like to share a project ive been working on and tweaking for well over a year now. Ive decided to call it "Marine-Assistant"
Its an Aquarium controller that you can build yourself, The case is 3d Printed and the files are available on makerworld for you to print yourself. The Electronics themselves are easy to put together and im in the process of making build videos to guide you through the process step by step.
What makes it special:
- Leverages Home assistant, a extremly well supported system that is not locked into any one ecosystem. It has litterally thousands of devices you can use and connect to help you manage your aquarium. the possiblities are litteraly endless to what you can do with home assistant!
- The controller itself has many features specific to our use, Internal buzzer, Alert LEDs, dedicated sensor ports for Float, Leak, Flow and Temp sensors as well as dedicated ATO ports. All the Ports use aviation grade GX16 sockets for a secure conection.
- Isolated Analog Ports, This gives you reliable and constant PH,ORP and EC values. There is a TDS Port to for your ATO water. These ports are designed to be flexible, you are free to use whatever sensor kits you would like. Im currently using all DF Robot sensors and am getting great results.
- My goal was for it to be cheaper to build a full setup than the big named controllers (without mentioning any names!). meaning the controller with all the Analog sensors and auxilary sensors. That is Definatly possible!
- It has an Ethernet Port, Its also completely local and doesnt need any cloud service.
- Schematic, Code and 3d print files are all open source. Im still to upload them to github and will link them here when ive done it. Im also in the process of finalising a website for the project.... google search for "marine assistant aquarium controller" should lead you in the right direction. :)
The controller itself is based around the ESP32-S3-ETH from waveshare, and uses ESPhome in home assistant to uplaod the code.... its really easy to do!
Here are some pics of my current setup.... please note the dashboard screenshot was on a test unit and some stuff wasnt calibrated correctly, thats why some of the values are strange.
Ill update more as I finalise everything but I thought now would be a good time to share...
