Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has done a DIY cooling tower. I had this idea to build a cooling tower but i have no idea how well it will work vs just a fan array.

I built a rough blue print

Basically the idea is you would pump water to the top of the tower and let it drop to the bottom while running a cooling fan. the u bend keeps the air from flowing into the sump/ water return.

Thoughts?

i think it would get clogged with salt very quickly.
and the exhaust would be super humid.

the water in pipe would have to be much larger, maybe 2-3" and the actual water tap would have to be down the pipe a bit, maybe 1/3 of the way from the top.
Add a big ole fan to move substantial air through the pipe, and it might work, but it would be horribly inefficient. Real cooling towers have a bunch of "fins" (for lack of a better word) that force the water into thin sheets and then massive amounts of air are passed through.
