Hey, I have a 55 gallon tank that I am trying to put coral in(soon). I am trying to add or make a refugium for my tank. I currently have a fluval 110 on the back now as a regular HOB filter w/ chemipure elite, ceramic rings, and a sponge as the media. I've been thinking about changing it into a refugium. My real question is would it even be beneficial to have that small of a fuge with a tank that big? I realize a 55g isnt THAT big, but still, would it help? lol. To save space, I'd like to basically use half the filter for a fuge, and half for filter media. Has anybody tried this? I really dont have the space to add a sump/fuge w/out completely building and piping one from another room. Any other creative ways to get this done would be appreciated too. Thanks for any advice or help given.

I've seen people do display refugium's above or alongside your display tank on a shelf. Maybe a 10 gallon or something. Everything I've read says you want atleast 10% display volume in your fuge.

Oh ok, yea I could do something like that, I was thinking of building a little box to keep a sump/fuge in. Thanks for the tip though, didn't know it should be that much

Wouldn't be to much money. 10 gallon tank drilled with a simple overflow On a shelf. Small return pump to get water up there maybe a 200 gph Rio or something. And a small light. Gtg. 100 bucks I think you would be pimped out.

Another cool part is you can keep non reef safe inhabitants. Maybe a small angler or something fancy that your scared to put in with your corals.
