What is the cheapest option? Mesh is not the heard thing to get. It is how I am going to attach the mesh to my lid and be able to take it off and put it back on. what are the cheapest and easiest options? I have a 10 gal long with a hang on back filter.

I might be misunderstanding your question. Once the mesh is secured in the screen frame with the spline it is fixed to the frame. The whole mesh/frame assembly is then placed on the tank. For a tank with a rim/frame the mesh frame usually rests on the tank lip. For a rimless tank you need to use something like the above linked clips to rest the mesh frame on.

Window screen kit from home depot or lowes is the best option. you attach the screen to the metal they give you and then it sits in the rim of your tank. I had one on my tank back in the day. You want to get the biggest mesh screen you can as it will help let in more light on your tank. Some of the pics posted in this thread are great examples. It really is the cheapest option and doesn't cost much. It is a simple diy project.

I just redid my lid using screen framing from Lowes, cut to size so it rests on top of the glass rim. I didn't use center braces and was worried that it would bend/curl from the tension of the mesh, but it does not.

exactly what esquire said. I made my own from window screen material and ordered the mesh from amazon. very easy.
