I know from a lot of reading that the pvc overflow is a garbage design and everything but I am willing to try it as I set up my 125 gallon fowlr tank. I have read a lot of forums and everything and everyone is different. Was seeing from everyone here and experts or long time In the hobby and get another opinion of the flow rates. I will have a jebao 10000 or 8000 return pump with a 55 Gallon sump on my 125 gallon tank. The tank is in the midst of getting set up and I am trying a cheaper route for the overflow I do not want to risk blowing my tank apart since I have never drilled before. I will be using a 1 1/4 inch pvc over flow and if it does not work I will buy a Eshopps 1800 HOB overflow.

Flow rates for diy pvc over flows. I put a T end on mine. Water in side, air in top, with a little piece of foam in the top to quiet her. It’s really quiet, but I’m running dual 3/4’s

Been rock solid for reliability and performance.

2 months. All pumps shut down for 10 minutes once a day for feeding. Always starts back up.

I did add a aqua litter pump for back up to run for 1 minute every 30 minutes for peace of mind. I ended up shutting it off.

Went with 5/16 vent lines for the air. Dropped the lines into the cabinet. No noise.

Blue lines are my prime lines, I hooked them together. This is where I blow water in to start the initial prime. Only have done it the first time I started it.

Third pic is my lifter. It’s off. Just running on gravity now.

4th pic is where that water dumps back into my sump.

Nice set up looks clean... I am definitely going to give it a shot and mess around with it if it doesn't work I will just have to spend the cash for a HOB overflow box
