Hi, I’m new to the hobby and was wondering if people could share pictures of their DIY sumps and maybe share some details about how they made it work?
I found a video on YT and already have a couple containers to use but I would like to see some more ideas before I start.

Welcome to R2R!

The nice thing about DIY sumps is that you can customize it to fit your equipment and your needs. Have you decided on your in sump equipment yet? (Skimmer, heaters, reactors, etc)

From there, using the size of space you have available for the sump, you can back into the chamber sizes.

This is my first time ever building and using a sump. Research it for years and finally did one. It's a 20g tall for a 29g. Loving it so far about to make an overflow box just using an old hob filter as overflow. Don't trust it but the power rarely goes out here but that's not satisfying to me.

Here's mine. Made it from glass I got for free. One was a random piece of glass, and the other glass I scraped from a leaking 40B tank.

Its 25.5" L x 15.5" W x 15" Height. I basically made all the section small to maximize the refugium section. The fuge is 10 gallons. Everything works just fine, but the return section and skimmer sections are small. The sump uses a filter pad tray instead of socks. Only skimmers that fit are the compact space saving type.

I am in the same boat as you, new to SW and working on my first setup. Just got done with my sump the other day. 40 gallon aqueon from Petco DPG sale. I then tried to get glass baffles, but the quotes I got were ridiculous. Ended up getting 4 1/4" acrylic baffles cut at tapplastic. Pics attached. Good luck with your build.

If you don't have access to regular sump materials look into containers, especially the ones with like 2 or 3 levels, you can have different things on different layers and then put it inside a big plastic container, this si the cheapest way to go imo
