Am i right to assume that if i dose selenomethionine, it wont show up on icp since is organic? Thanks

Have a you ever seen/found article or research with composition of major, minor and trace elements in a seawater? But not the average (if i understood correctly) from all oceans like the periodic table of elements in the ocean, but data from an actual reef , i.e. Indo, Malaysia or Australian reef seawater?

Major ions only change by salinity, not location. I’ve seen many such articles on trace elements, although they typically test some subset of them, not all.

Thanks i was very curious to see whats the difference in the trace element composition. I will spend some more time researching it online. Thought someone might know a web page or refer an article. Thanks.
Do you mind to double check my math for the ribidium. I know you are against dosing it, but please have a look when you got a minute:

Rubidium Chloride is 70.6% ribidium by weight
If I dissolve 1g in 1L water -the concentration will be 706 mg/L or 706 ug/ml
Adding 1ml (706ug) to 100L of aquarium water boosts rubidium by 7.06 ug/L
If i want to get to 200ug/L concentration in 900L aquarium - i should dose 254.97ml, i.e. about 255ml
Does this look correct to you?
 
Just an fyi, rubidium has no known need in any organism. The math is correct.
Thanks for checking it. I am very sceptical as well, but i managed to get hold of some and wanted to test it in one of my systems, where i keep mostly zoas ans softies. The Moonshiner's report massive growth on soft corals, believe or not :)

I have no doubt that adding trace elements helps many reef tanks grow all types of corals, macroalgae, etc.

I do not believe the barium or rubidium are useful, and am somewhat skeptical on some others. :)
 
Just making sure I am understanding this correctly.. to make the DIY Boron, you have to mix 100g into 1L (1000mls)?

This is a boron recipe:

0.88 grams of borax (sodium borate 10H2O ) increases the boron concentration in 100 liters of water by 1 ppm.

You can dissolve it in any volume of ro/di that is convenient.

So I can do 0.88 grams dissolved in 2000mls with it not being too potent?

0.88 grams of sodium borate 10H2O in 2 liters is only going to be a 50 ppm Boron solution. Captiv8 is 44,500 ppm B and reefmoonshine i think is 4,000 ppm B.

You mean for a dosing solution? You may be able to dissolve it in 100 mL of ro/di.

Thanks, I am using moonshiners. So I would like to keep it in that range. Looks like a lot of borate 10H2O will be needed for sure then

Can I please ask for some more advice? I am using your two-part recipe with TM Part C and have recently purchased bulk quantities of Calcium, KH, Magnesium, Part C, Kalkwasser ) i dose a little bit at night for the ph) and some activated carbon. Since it will take a while before I use everything and I'm not sure how well my buckets are sealed (all chemicals came in 25 kg bags), I'm considering dividing them into smaller bags (something like 1 kg each) and vacuum sealing them with a food vacuum sealer. Is this a good idea? Also, regarding the activated carbon, my understanding is that it reacts with air, so it might be even better to vacuum seal it. Anything wrong to vacuum seal calcium hydroxide? Am I on the right track?

Nothing wrong with vacuum sealing calcium hydroxide. The others don’t need protection from air. :)

Some people always use gloves when doing some work in their tanks.
Whats you opinion on it?
Also, what would be the best gloves in terms of reef safe material? Would it be nitrile gloves?

Gloves are always best, IMO, but sometimes are not suited to deep or fine work, and while I have shoulder length gloves, I typically only use them if the thing I am handling stings or scrapes or cuts.
