Gloves are always best, IMO, but sometimes are not suited to deep or fine work, and while I have shoulder length gloves, I typically only use them if the thing I am handling stings or scrapes or cuts.

On another note, now that we have Organo MS from Oceamo and we can test for vitamins and amino acids, has someone tried dosing vitamins B, C, A ... different aminos? Do you go for food grade? They probably come with fillers....dont they? Any thoughts?

thanks @Randy Holmes-Farley . I have seen some comments in the Moonshiner's Facebook group stating that high DOC can turn bacteria to pathogenic, increase the risk of cyano and cause less polyp extension. I failed to find scientific research on this subject. Probably there is something, i just couldn't find it. At the end i was wondering if i can diy something and check where am I rather than sending expensive doc tests.

Some folks seem to be concernedabout organics in ways that do not necessarily make sense to me. I’m not doubting that organics have many positive and negative effects, but to lump them all together as a single thing has limited value, IMO.

It’s exactly the same as saying that one should measure salinity because calcium is needed by corals.

In any case, an absolute number doesn’t mean much to me without l owing what it is, and that what it is will be different tank to tank.

But there’s nothing wrong with skimming, GAC, and products like Purigen to lower doc.

Thanks Randy, much appreciated. I have spent the whole weekend reading about DOC and must say that everything you mentioned above is as it is. The absolute number doesnt tell us a lot.
Going back to the vitamins subject. I have spent last few days searching for any scientific data regarding vitamins found in natural reef waters and what they do. Do you dose vitamins? Apparantly B vitamins are present in small quantities. My questions is, dont they degrade in water over time. Whats your opinion on the Organo MS from Oceamo. Do they really survive a week of travel to be tested properly?
Also, i had a look for some B vitamins, but the pure grade once are really expensive. I was thinking of getting some B complex, but they come with added stuff as coconut oil powder? Would that do any harm?

Hi @Randy Holmes-Farley, would you mind to check my math whenever you get a chance. I am doing my own alkalinity solution for small adjustments on my berghia breeding system. It is based on sodium bicarbonate. According to wikipedia the solubity at 20C is 96g/L.
According to my calculations, If i dissolve 96g of powder in 1L of RO water- adding 30mL of solution per 100L of water will raise alkalinity by approximately 1 dKH.
Does this seem right for you?

I doubt you will get it to dissolve that strong Randy's Recipe is 287 grams to make one gallon and sometimes that can take awhile for me to get it to dissolve with out warming it up a bit.

Making a solution right at the solubility limit seems problematic. Is there a reason to not use a standard solution?

Thank you all for the replies. Thats actually a great point. In my main 2 tanks I am dosing Randy`s two part as it is with TM part C and it works great. Thank you Randy for creating the recipe. For this diy alkalinity solution i just wanted to have something to correct alkalinity once in a while in a berghia breeding system where i dont dose anything. I wanted it to be easy to calculate. If a human supplement is sold as:
"Chromium (as Chromium Chloride) | 500mcg"
Does this mean 500mcg Chromium, or 500mcg Chromium Chloride, 24.5% of which is Cr by weight?
I believe it is the former, but of course the devil is in the details.
