do blue leg hermits bury themselves

One of my two blue legged hermits has vanished, shell and all. It could not have climbed out of the tank as the mesh at the top is smaller than the shell sized, and it was not in my overflow.

Do they bury themselves after molting or anything, shell included?

No they don’t burrow in the sand. What else is in your tank, it might be hiding. Or it might have gotten eaten. But shells don’t get eaten so that’s still in your tank somewhere.

It has to be tucked in a rock somehow somewhere then i guess, although Ive searched high and low for its shell, which is distinct because it is completely covered in coralline and none of the ones in the tank I can see are like it

Mine typically crawl into one of my acro colonies when they shed. I'll see them in the same place for a week or so. And a couple times, I've even seen the shedding on the rock below. I have never seen my hermits bury themselves in the sand, though. Agree, it has to be in a rock crevice somewhere.
